CCA: Cisterna chyli ablation. Destroying the cisterna chyli, which is a reservoir for lymphatic fluid located in the abodomen, helps the body divert the lymphatic fluid away from it's normal path. This allows the body to create alternate pathways to bring the lymphatic fluid to the bloodstream relieving the pressure placed on the thoracic duct
FHO: Femoral Head Ostectomy. The femoral head or ball is removed completely allowing a false joint to develop. The muscles instead transfer the force taken with each step to the pelvis versus the hip joint itself. Activity and weight must be managed very closely with this procedure
TDL: Thoracic Duct Ligation. The procedure, along with a pericardiectomy, helps to slow the accumulation of chyle into the thorax by encouraging the body to create other pathways to bring chyle to the bloodstream other than via the thoracic duct
TECA-BO: Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy. Due to chronic inflammation, infection, or tumor growth, the ear canal is removed completely and the middle ear or bulla is cut open in order to remove the lining and allow drainage
THR: Total Hip Replacement. The ball and socket of the hip joint is replaced with implants in order to help decrease or eliminate hip pain and allow similar functionality to a normal hip joint. This provides more stability and functionality than an FHO
Tieback: Unilateral Arytenoid Lateralization. In patients experiencing laryngeal paralysis, this procedure may enable them to breath more appropriately by having one side of the airway pulled and sutured to be in a permanently open state. Elevated feedings, weight loss, smaller meals portioned into meatballs formed from wet food, and harnesses are appropriate after surgery. Aspiration pneumonia may occur after surgery
TPLO: Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy. Usually performed with cranial cruciate ligament disease or tear. It involves a circular cut at the top of the tibia, reorienting it to be nearly level relative to the quadricep attachment site, and then stabilizing it with a bone plate and screws in an attempt to make a more stable knee
