Doctor's Order:
Start a Midazolam CRI at 1 mg/kg/hr. Draw up 4 hours worth of Midazolam.
Patient Weight:
9 kg
Midazolam Concentration:
5 mg/ml
Complete the Math:
(1 mg/kg/hr) x (9 kg) = 9 mg/hr of Midazolam
(9 mg/hr) / (5 mg/ml) = 1.8 ml/hr of Midazolam
(1.8 ml/hr) x (4 hr) = 7.2 ml Midazolam (protect from light)
The Result:
You will need 7.2 ml of Midazolam to run the CRI at 1 mg/kg/hr or 1.8 ml/hr for 4 hours
*Note Per Plumb's as of 10/11/21: "Midazolam is physically incompatible with amphotericin B, ampicillin sodium, ceftazidime, dexamethasone sodium phosphate, dimenhydrinate, esomeprazole, furosemide, heparin, hydrocortisone sodium succinate, pantoprazole, pentobarbital, phenobarbital, piperacillin/tazobactam, ranitidine, and sodium bicarbonate."
