Canine Normal Values:
2.0-4.1 g/dL
Feline Normal Values:
2.8-5.3 g/dL
Significance:
Used in the assessment of total protein
Increases in Values:
May help support the diagnosis of dehydration, chronic inflammation or infection, and myeloid neoplasia. Globulin is typically interpreted with albumin levels. In dehydrated animals, the globulin and albumin levels will be elevated. In animals experiencing chronic inflammation, infection, or myeloid neoplasia, the globulin levels will be elevated while the albumin levels may be lower than normal
Decreases in Values:
Decreased values may indicate low protein intake via certain diets or starvation. They may also be seen with certain cancers causing decreased globulin production
