Doctor's Order:
Start a Fentanyl CRI at 3 mcg/kg/hr. Draw up 12 hours worth of Fentanyl
Patient Weight:
27 kg
Fentanyl Concentration:
0.05 mg/ml
Convert the Fentanyl from mg to mcg:
(0.05 mg/ml) x (1,000 mcg/mg) = 50 mcg/ml concentration of Fentanyl
Complete the Math:
(3 mcg/kg/hr) x (27 kg) = 81 mcg/hr of Fentanyl
(81 mcg/hr) / (50 mcg/ml) = 1.62 ml/hr of Fentanyl
(1.62 ml/hr) x (12 hr) = 19.44 ml Fentanyl
The Result:
You will need 19.44 ml of Fentanyl to run the CRI at 3 mcg/kg/hr or 1.62 ml/hr for 12 hours
